LANDS & RESOURCES
The primary role of the Gwich’in Tribal Council’s Department of Lands and Resources (GLR) is to represent the landowner and administer access to Gwich’in lands on behalf of all Gwich’in.
GLR ensures compliance with the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement (GCLCA) and is responsible for the overall protection, management as well as reporting in relation to the Gwich’in Settlement Region. This includes the protection of water quality, land resources, air, fisheries, wildlife, and wildlife habitats as well as cultural and heritage resources. Over the years, GLR has developed rules, guidelines, policies, and procedures for the administration of Gwich’in lands. In carrying out its responsibilities, GLR collaborates with Gwich’in community Renewable Resources Councils(RRCs) Designated Gwich’in Organizations (DGOs), Gwich’in Renewable Resources Board (GRRB), Gwich’in Land Use Planning Board (GLUPB) and Gwich’in Land and Water Board(GLWB). GLR fees are updated annually. The current fee schedule applies until March 31, 2024. |
