STUDENT FINANCIAL SUPPORT PROGRAMS
ISETS Bursary Funding for Post-Secondary Programs Eligible applicants must be registered Gwich’in Participants or must be self-identified First Nation and Metis individuals who reside within the Gwich’in Settlement Area: Aklavik, Fort McPherson, Inuvik or Tsiigehtchic. Proof of residency may be requested. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in full time post-secondary programs as identified by the institution you are attending. Applicants must seek other funding sources before applying with the Gwich’in Tribal Council (example: SFA or to see if you are EI eligible for funding). Self-Identified First Nations, Metis living within the Gwich’in Settlement area may also apply for funding for full-time Short Training Courses (12 weeks or less). Post-Secondary Student Support Funding for Post-Secondary Programs Eligible applicants must be Registered Status Indians registered to the Indian Act Bands located within the Gwich’in Settlement Area who otherwise may not qualify for post-secondary funding offered by the Northwest Territories Student Financial Assistance Program (NWTSFA) due to territorial residency program requirements and or students that exceed the lifetime funding limits for basic and supplementary grants outlined for NWT residents. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in a post-secondary program as identified by the institution you are attending. Proof of Certificate of Indian Status and a funding denial letter from the Northwest Territories Student Financial Assistance Program is required. Eligible applicants must not be in receipt of any Indigenous Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ISET) Program or any Provincial or Territorial Canada Student Grants or Student loans that are considered remissible or forgivable as these are from the same funding source. Gwich’in Education Foundation Bursary for Post-Secondary Programs Eligible applicants must be registered members of the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement and who are enrolled in full time post-secondary programs. Applicants must seek other funding sources before applying with the Gwich’in Tribal Council (example: SFA or to see if you are EI eligible for funding). The applicant may be required to provide evidence that attempts have been made to access other funding. University and College Entrance Preparation Program (UCEP) for NWT Residents This program provides student financial assistance for Registered Status Indians to enroll into full time post-secondary studies that will prepare them to enter a college or university program. Applicants are eligible to receive financial assistance tuition, books and living allowance for a maximum of ten months (two semesters). Applicants may also be eligible for a travel allowance. Eligible Applicants are encouraged to apply to Indigenous Services Canada directly. Applications must be sent to Indigenous Service Canada. Education Application Forms

June 30 (each year) for Post- Secondary programs starting in the Fall Semester November 15 (each year) for Post-Secondary programs starting in the Winter Semester March 15 (each year) for Post-Secondary programs starting in the Spring Semester April 15 (each year) for Post-Secondary programs starting in the Summer Semester For all other programs and short courses, application must be received 30 days prior. |

Question: I was approved for funding and received funds at the start of my semester. When can I expect to receive a payment for the following semester?
Answer: Students must have and maintain a 60% average to be eligible for funding. Students must arrange for OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS to be sent in after each semester for a review of academic performance. No further payments will be made until verification of marks is received.
Question: I am currently attending part time studies. Do I qualify for a bursary?
Answer: In order to qualify for a bursary, students must be enrolled in full time studies at a recognized post-secondary diploma or degree program. Full time studies shall mean to be full time as defined by the post-secondary institution or program.
Question: I am currently attending upgrading or Adult Basic Education. Do I qualify for a bursary?
Answer: Students attending an upgrading or Adult Basic Education are not eligible for funding at this time.
Question: I was previously in receipt of funding from the GTC Education & Training, did not complete my program or course and am currently not in good standing with the GTC Education. Do I qualify for funding?
Answer: Students wishing to access further funding, are encouraged to speak with Education and Training Staff to set up a repayment plan.
