GOVERNANCE
The Gwich’in Tribal Council (GTC) was formed as a result of the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement (GCLCA). GTC is comprised of a number of institutional structures, including the Designated Gwich’in Organizations in each Gwich’in community and the Gwich’in Development Corporation.

The GCLCA also provides for the negotiation of Gwich'in Government, which is currently in progress.
The governance structure of the GTC is made up of:
- Assemblies – the ultimate governing body of the GTC, setting objectives in accordance with the GCLCA;
- Board of Directors (BOD) – set the overall direction for management and operation of the GTC;
- GTC Executive – the Grand Chief and Deputy Grand Chief, responsible for overall management and operation of the GTC in accordance with By-laws, Assembly Resolutions, the GCLCA, and direction from the GTC BOD; and
- Land Claim Participants – represented through the community-based DGOs at both the Annual General Assembly as well as representation on the BOD.
The GCLCA also provides for the negotiation of Gwich'in Government, which is currently in progress.
